Where Should You Stay in Seoul with Parents? Myeongdong, Insadong, Seoul Station, Yongsan, or Gangnam
When visiting Seoul with your parents, the cheapest hotel is not always the best choice.
A hotel may look close to a subway station but still require stairs, uphill walking, or a long walk through the station. If three adults share one room, you also need to check the actual number of beds—not only the maximum occupancy.
Here is the short answer:
Choose 명동 / Myeongdong / Myeongdong for a first trip and a mixed sightseeing itinerary.
Choose 인사동 / Insadong / Insadong for palaces and traditional culture.
Choose 서울역 / Seoul-yeok / Seoul Station for the airport railroad or KTX trains to Busan and Gyeongju.
Choose 용산 / Yongsan / Yongsan for KTX trains to Jeonju or Mokpo.
Choose 강남 / Gangnam / Gangnam when most of your plans are around COEX, hospitals, or southern Seoul.
For a two- to four-day trip, staying in one hotel is usually easier than changing hotels with your parents and luggage.
Who is this guide for?
This guide is useful if:
- You are taking your parents to Seoul for the first time.
- One or both parents prefer shorter walks.
- Three adults plan to share one room.
- Your itinerary includes a KTX trip before or after Seoul.
Different criteria may be more important if you are traveling alone or as a couple and mainly want nightlife or the lowest room price.
Quick comparison
| Area | Best for | Airport access | Main caution |
| 명동 / Myeongdong / Myeongdong | First-time visitors, shopping and central sightseeing | Airport bus or AREX with a transfer | Hills and crowds vary by hotel location |
| 인사동 / Insadong / Insadong | Palaces, traditional culture and a slower itinerary | Airport bus, subway or taxi | Check alleys, entrance access and elevators |
| 서울역 / Seoul-yeok / Seoul Station | Incheon Airport and KTX travel | Direct access by AREX | The station is large and may require long walks |
| 용산 / Yongsan / Yongsan | KTX trips to Jeonju or Mokpo | Rail transfer or taxi from the airport | Less convenient for northern Seoul attractions |
| 강남 / Gangnam / Gangnam | COEX, medical visits and business | Airport bus or taxi | Long daily travel to palaces and Myeongdong |
Choose 명동 / Myeongdong / Myeongdong for a first Seoul trip
Myeongdong is the most balanced option for parents visiting Seoul for the first time.
It provides convenient access to central Seoul, shopping, restaurants and major sightseeing areas. It also works well when your daily plans are spread across several parts of the city.
From 인천국제공항 / Incheon Gukje Gonghang / Incheon International Airport, an airport limousine bus can be convenient if it stops close to your hotel. If you take 공항철도 / Gonghang Cheoldo / AREX Airport Railroad, you need to transfer at Seoul Station to 서울 지하철 4호선 / Seoul Jihacheol Sa-hoseon / Seoul Subway Line 4.
Some streets south of Myeongdong Station are uphill. Do not rely only on a description such as “five minutes from the station.” Check the actual route from the station exit or airport bus stop to the hotel.

Choose 인사동 / Insadong / Insadong for palaces and traditional culture
Insadong suits parents who want to focus on palaces, traditional tea houses and historic neighborhoods.
It can reduce travel between traditional attractions and is generally quieter at night than Myeongdong.
However, some hotels are inside narrow alleys or smaller older buildings. Check whether a taxi can reach the entrance and whether the property has an elevator.
Insadong may be less suitable if shopping and late-night activities are the main purpose of your trip.
Choose 서울역 / Seoul-yeok / Seoul Station for AREX and KTX
Seoul Station is convenient when arriving through Incheon International Airport or continuing to 부산 / Busan / Busan or 경주 / Gyeongju / Gyeongju by KTX.
The official AREX Airport Railroad connects both Incheon Airport terminals with Seoul Station.
The main drawback is the size of the station. Walking between the train platform, subway, taxi stand and hotel can take longer than expected.
Check which side and exit of Seoul Station your hotel is near. If you are staying only in Seoul and will not use KTX, Myeongdong may be easier.

Choose 용산 / Yongsan / Yongsan for trains to Jeonju or Mokpo
Yongsan works well if your itinerary includes a train to 전주 / Jeonju / Jeonju or 목포 / Mokpo / Mokpo. Check the departure station and schedule on the official KORAIL website before booking your hotel.
용산역 / Yongsan-yeok / Yongsan Station is connected to shopping and dining facilities, which can be useful on rainy days or when your parents prefer not to walk far outdoors.
However, staying in Yongsan adds travel time if most of your plans are around the palaces, Insadong and northern Seoul. It is a lower priority if you do not plan to use KTX.
Choose 강남 / Gangnam / Gangnam for a southern Seoul itinerary
Gangnam is suitable when most of your plans involve 코엑스 / Koekseu / COEX, medical appointments, business meetings or southern Seoul.
An 공항 리무진 버스 / Gonghang Rimujin Beoseu / airport limousine bus may reduce transfers if it stops near your hotel. A taxi is also worth comparing when traveling with parents and several large suitcases. Check current routes and stops on the official Airport Limousine website.
Gangnam is not the most efficient base if you plan to visit Myeongdong, Insadong and the palace area every day. Choose it because your itinerary is concentrated in southern Seoul—not simply because it is a famous district.
Does your arrival airport change the decision?
For this English-language guide, Incheon International Airport is the main arrival point.
- Seoul Station: simplest connection by AREX
- Myeongdong: airport bus or AREX with a subway transfer
- Insadong or Gangnam: compare a nearby airport bus stop with a taxi
- Yongsan: usually requires a rail transfer or taxi after entering Seoul
If you arrive at 김포국제공항 / Gimpo Gukje Gonghang / Gimpo International Airport, the journey into central Seoul is shorter. In that case, choose your area mainly according to your sightseeing plans and whether you need KTX.
For three adults traveling together, compare the total airport bus fare with the estimated taxi fare. If the difference is reasonable for your budget, reducing transfers and walking may be more valuable than choosing the cheapest option.
What should three adults check before booking one room?
A maximum occupancy of three does not always mean that the room has three beds.
Check:
- Maximum occupancy
- The exact number and size of beds
- Triple rooms, family rooms or extra-bed availability
- Enough floor space for your luggage
A regular bed may be more comfortable for your parents than a sofa bed or floor bedding, even if both options technically accommodate three guests.
How can you reduce walking for your parents?
The actual route matters more than the distance shown on a booking page.
Before booking, check:
- Whether your station exit has an elevator
- Whether the route includes hills or stairs
- Whether you must cross a large road from the airport bus stop
- Whether a taxi can stop at the hotel entrance
If a parent has significant mobility limitations, contact the hotel directly about accessible rooms, step-free entrances and bathroom support rails.
Five essential checks before booking
You do not need a long checklist. Confirm these five points:
- Number of transfers from the airport
- Actual walking route from the station or bus stop
- Maximum occupancy and bed configuration
- Breakfast or nearby restaurants
- Recent reviews about noise and cleanliness

Summary
For a first Seoul trip with parents, Myeongdong is the most balanced choice.
Insadong is better for traditional culture, Seoul Station or Yongsan is better when KTX matters, and Gangnam is better when most plans are in southern Seoul.
After selecting the area, prioritize these three factors over the hotel’s star rating:
Airport-to-hotel route + actual walking conditions + room and bed configuration
