How to Get from Incheon Airport to Myeongdong, Hongdae, or Gangnam
There is no single best way to travel from Incheon Airport to Seoul.
The AREX train is usually the best choice for a solo traveler with light luggage. An airport limousine bus may be easier if you are traveling with parents, young children, or large suitcases. For a group of three or four, it is worth comparing the total taxi fare.
First, check the airport code on your ticket.
- ICN: Incheon International Airport
- GMP: Gimpo International Airport
This guide focuses on Incheon Airport but also explains what to do if your flight arrives at Gimpo Airport.
Who is this guide for?
This guide is useful if you:
- are traveling independently from the airport to a Seoul hotel
- are staying in Myeongdong, Hongdae, or Gangnam
- need to choose between the AREX train, airport bus, and taxi
- want an option that matches your luggage, group size, and budget
You may not need this guide if:
- your package tour includes an airport transfer
- your hotel or travel company has arranged a private pickup
- you are only connecting to another flight
- your accommodation is outside Myeongdong, Hongdae, or Gangnam
Choose by your travel conditions
| Your situation | Best option to check first | Why |
| Solo or two travelers, light luggage, lower budget | AREX or subway | Lower cost and no road traffic |
| Large suitcases, parents, or young children | Airport limousine bus | Fewer transfers and less walking |
| Three or four travelers with luggage | Compare a taxi | One vehicle can take you to the hotel |
| Arrival after 11:00 p.m. | Night bus or taxi | Regular trains and buses may finish |
| Package tour or private pickup | Use the booked vehicle | No need to arrange public transport |
When traveling with parents or someone who prefers less walking, reducing transfers is usually more important than choosing the cheapest fare.
Check these four things before leaving the airport
- Is your airport code ICN or GMP?
- At Incheon Airport, did you arrive at Terminal 1 or Terminal 2?
- Which station or airport bus stop is closest to your hotel?
- What time will you finish immigration and baggage collection?
Check the last train or bus using the time you expect to leave the arrivals hall, not the aircraft’s landing time.
From Incheon Airport to Myeongdong
Choose Bus 6001 if you have large luggage
Airport Limousine Bus 6001 travels through Seoul Station and Hoehyeon Station before reaching Myeongdong Station.

- Transportation cost: KRW 17,000 per adult, one way
- Main stops: Seoul Station, Hoehyeon Station, Myeongdong Station, and Chungmuro Station
- Best for: large suitcases, families, and travelers who want fewer transfers
- Less useful for: travelers with light luggage who want the lowest fare
The bus is convenient if your hotel is near Myeongdong Station. Travel time can increase during heavy traffic.
Choose AREX if you are traveling light
Take the AREX train to Seoul Station and transfer to Seoul Subway Line 4. Myeongdong is one stop from Seoul Station.
The AREX Express Train runs directly to Seoul Station and requires a separate ticket. The All-Stop Train also travels to Seoul Station.
The transfer inside Seoul Station involves a fairly long walk. Bus 6001 may be easier with a large suitcase.

From Incheon Airport to Hongdae
The simplest option is the AREX All-Stop Train. It travels directly to Hongik University Station without a transfer.
Do not take the AREX Express Train for Hongdae. The Express Train does not stop at Hongik University Station.
Bus 6002 is another option if your hotel is close to one of its stops.
- Transportation cost: KRW 17,000 per adult, one way
- Main stops: Hongik University, Seogyo-dong, and Hapjeong Station
- Best for: travelers with large luggage staying near a bus stop
- Less useful for: travelers staying close to Hongik University Station
For one or two travelers with light luggage, the All-Stop Train is usually the most practical choice.
From Incheon Airport to Gangnam
Gangnam covers a large area. Choose the bus according to your hotel address rather than selecting a bus simply marked “Gangnam.”
- Gangnam Station and Yangjae Station area: Bus 6009
- Gangnam Station Exit 12 and Yeoksam Station area: Bus 6020
- Sinnonhyeon, Bongeunsa, Samseong, and COEX area: Bus 6703
Buses 6009 and 6020 cost KRW 17,000 per adult, one way. Bus 6703 costs KRW 18,000.
Bus 6703 can be convenient for a business trip, exhibition, or conference at COEX. Train and subway routes are available, but they require transfers. The bus is usually easier with luggage.
What if you arrive at Gimpo Airport?
If the airport code on your ticket is GMP, you are arriving at Gimpo International Airport. Gimpo Airport is closer to central Seoul than Incheon Airport.
From Gimpo Airport to Myeongdong
Take the AREX All-Stop Train to Seoul Station and transfer to Subway Line 4.
The transfer at Seoul Station requires some walking. A taxi may be worth comparing if you have large luggage or are traveling in a group of three or four.
From Gimpo Airport to Hongdae
Take the AREX All-Stop Train directly to Hongik University Station.
For one or two travelers, this is usually simpler and cheaper than a taxi.
From Gimpo Airport to Gangnam
Subway Line 9 is convenient for Sinnonhyeon and COEX.

- Sinnonhyeon area: Subway Line 9
- Gangnam Station area: transfer from Line 9 to the Shinbundang Line at Sinnonhyeon Station
- Bongeunsa Station and COEX area: Subway Line 9
Line 9 can be crowded during commuting hours. A taxi may be easier if you are traveling with parents or carrying large suitcases.
Airport transportation costs for your travel budget
| Destination | Transport | Unit | Cost |
|---|---|---|---|
| Myeongdong | Bus 6001 | Per adult, one way | KRW 17,000 |
| Hongdae | Bus 6002 | Per adult, one way | KRW 17,000 |
| Gangnam | Bus 6009 or 6020 | Per adult, one way | KRW 17,000 |
| COEX | Bus 6703 | Per adult, one way | KRW 18,000 |
| Seoul | AREX or subway | Per person, one way | Varies by route |
| Hotel | Taxi | Per vehicle, one way | Varies by distance, traffic, tolls, and surcharges |
For three or four travelers, divide the estimated taxi fare by the number of passengers and compare it with the total airport bus cost.
Tickets and payment
At Incheon Airport, the safest method is to buy your airport bus ticket from an airport ticket counter or ticket machine before boarding.
Bring a physical Visa, Mastercard, or JCB that is enabled for international use. Do not rely only on a card stored on your phone. A small amount of Korean won is also useful.
Buying or topping up a standard T-money or EZL transportation card may require cash.
Physical international card + a small amount of Korean won + a Korean transportation card

If you arrive late at night
Most regular public transportation from Incheon Airport to Seoul reduces service or finishes at around 11:30 p.m.
Late-night travelers should compare night buses and taxis separately. Use your expected time after immigration and baggage collection, not your scheduled landing time.

- Parents, young children, or large suitcases: check an airport bus
- Three or four travelers: compare the total taxi fare
- Late-night arrival: check night buses and taxis
- Gimpo Airport arrival: check AREX or Subway Line 9 first
For Myeongdong, Bus 6001 is convenient with luggage. For Hongdae, the AREX All-Stop Train is usually the easiest option. For Gangnam, choose Bus 6009, 6020, or 6703 according to your hotel location.
